InnoTab Max vs Kindle Fire HD 6 Kids Edition

The InnoTab MAX is a 7″ tablet with a 1024×600 pixel resolution screen whilst the Kindle Fire HD 6 Kids Edition is a 6″ tablet with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The HD 6 has a protective case, whilst the InnoTab MAX tablet is designed specifically for children, with a removable screen cover that doubles as a stand, as well as various controls built into the tablet itself.

Both tablets are based on the Android operating system; the KD 6 on Fire OS  4 “Sangria”, Amazon’s own variant of android, and the InnoTab on Android 4.2.2. The MAX only has access to those approved Android apps that are available from VTech’s store; both have a different dashboard to the standard Android one.

Both tablets have a single speaker and a headphone jack, as well as a microphone. Each has a single camera; on the HD 6 this is a rear facing 2.0 megapixel camera, whilst the MAX’s camera, also 2.0 MP, will swivel through 180 degrees, so it can be used as either a front facing or a rear facing camera, or anything in between. Each tablet also comes with WiFi and a micro USB port; the InnoTab also has a cartridge slot for taking InnoTab cartridges.

Each tablet comes with 8GB of internal memory; the InnoTab MAX’s memory can be expanded, using the memory card slot, by another 32GB. Both come with parental controls; the MAX does not have an option to use the tablet as a normal Android tablet. Only approved apps and sites – the parent can add more sites – can be used with the InnoTab MAX. A parent can also keep track of their child’s educational progress on the InnoTab cartridges.

The Kindle Fire HD 6 Kids Edition is a regular Android tablet with software and a case designed for children, whilst the InnoTab MAX is an educational tablet intended to children, with both software and hardware configured for that. The InnoTab MAX is also cheaper than the HD 6, and is better used as an educational tablet rather than as a general tablet.
