Tablet Comparison: InnoTab Max vs Nabi 2
VTech’s InnoTab MAX and Fuhu’s Nabi 2 are both 7” Android tablets designed for children. The screen resolution on both tablets is 1024×600 pixels. The Nabi 2 has a protective case with strengthened corners, whilst that of the InnoTab MAX is specially designed to be suitable for children, with controls built in to the case itself, as well as a removable screen cover which doubles as a stand for the tablet. The Nabi runs Android 4.0, whilst the MAX runs 4.2.2, a more advanced version.
The MAX and the Nabi 2 both come with 8GB of internal memory, and both have a micro SD card slot, which allows the available memory to be expanded. The InnoTab MAX’s memory can be increased to 40GB, whilst that of the Nabi 2 can be increased to 32GB. Both tablets have WiFi for connection to the internet and the Nabi has Bluetooth as well, whilst the Nabi 2 has stereo speakers and the InnoTab just one. They both have headphone jacks. The InnoTab also has a cartridge slot, for using the InnoTab cartridge library. Both also have micro USB ports enabling them to connect to a computer.
Both tablets get Android apps from curated stores, the Nabi from App Zone 2.0 and the InnoTab from the InnoTab Learning Lodge, rather than from the full selection of Android apps. They both have parental controls, although those of the InnoTab are probably slightly stronger than those of the Nabi 2. Each tablet has only one 2.0 megapixel camera; the Nabi’s is front facing whilst that of the InnoTab is swivel mounted, and so can be rotated so that it is front facing, rear facing, or anything in between.
The InnoTab MAX is an educational tablet, rather than a general purpose Android tablet, whilst the Nabi 2 is an Android tablet designed for children. The case of the InnoTab MAX is stronger than that of the Nabi 2, and it is suitable for younger children. The two tablets are suitable for different purposes; the InnoTab MAX is more suitable if the primary aim for the tablet is educational.
